“Ken and Juliet Eckersley’s Nicholson River is on of Victoria’s most distinctive and beautiful wineries. Above a cliff on one side overlooking a Streeton-like view of the beautiful Nicholson River valley, with a broad panorama across the distant Gippsland Lakes and Bass Strait on the other side, the cellar door, an 1880 farmhouse, is the perfect place to chat with Ken, whose thoughtful, intelligent views on wine are refreshingly out of the mainstream. The wines made here cross a broad range of styles, with Chardonnay the most famous, Pinot Noir too, but the whole range of wines makes a unique tasting experience.”

"The Nicholson River Winery is run by two passionate people in the extreme south of Australia, in the Gippsland Region. Despite many difficulties in establishing the vineyard, and faced with competing against Australian multinational wineries, this estate offers a nice, deep ruby coloured wine with orange flecks. The complex and lively nose translates to a combination of berries, vanilla and spices. The mouth, with its rich tannins, prolongs the bouquet while completing it with blackcurrant and cherry."

"Nicholson River's fierce commitment to quality in the face of the temperamental Gippsland climate and frustratingly small production has been handsomely repaid by some massive Chardonnays and impressive red wines (from estate plantings). Ken Eckersley refers to his Chardonnays not as white wines but as gold wines, and lists them accordingly on his newsletter."
